Xero is a cloud accounting platform widely used by small businesses and accounting firms in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and increasingly worldwide, covering invoicing, bank feeds, payroll in some regions, and reporting. Businesses integrate Xero so that sales, eCommerce, project, and expense tools push accurate transactions into the ledger without manual entry. Xero and AI assistants (MCP)
Official MCP server: available. Xero's hosted Claude connector (mcp.xero.com, launched May 2026) is read-only; Xero's open-source MCP server adds writes but runs locally as a developer tool.
Besides syncing Xero with your other systems, we can give Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot controlled access to it through an MCP server: read-only tools first, write actions with approval steps, and every call logged.

Xero integration FAQs
How do you integrate with Xero?
We use the Xero Accounting API with OAuth 2.0, which covers contacts, invoices, payments, bills, journals, and reports, plus the Payroll and Projects APIs where relevant. Webhooks notify us of contact and invoice changes so syncs can run in near real time.
What about Xero API rate limits?
Xero applies per-tenant limits of 60 calls per minute and 5,000 calls per day, plus a concurrent-call limit. We design integrations to batch updates, use webhooks instead of polling, and queue work with back-off so large imports do not exhaust the daily quota.
Can we connect Xero to an AI agent?
Yes. AIONDATA can build a custom MCP server that wraps Xero endpoints as tools, letting an AI agent answer questions about receivables, cash position, or supplier bills and, with approval, draft invoices. The agent uses a scoped OAuth connection you can disconnect from Xero at any time.
Do you build custom integrations or use existing Xero App Store connectors?
Both. If a well-supported Xero App Store connector already does what you need we will recommend it, and we can configure it as part of an iPaaS setup. When your data model, approval rules, or systems are not covered, we build a custom API sync that you own.
